Tabor's Thoughts on Health Care

ìI am deeply concerned about the path our health care system is on today. Health care costs have ballooned over the past several years and there is no end in site. We need to take action now in order to contain costs and make health care more accessible to the average citizen,î Tabor said.

Tabor pointed out three areas that are key to reforming health care costs.

ìBy taking a long look at Medicare, private health care and prescription drug approval, we can find ample opportunities to reform our current health care system. These reforms will lead to a less bureaucratic and more efficient health care system for everyone involved,î Tabor added.

ìThe Medicare system is outdated and inflexible. Traditional coverage fails to protect seniors against catastrophic medical bills. Add to that the growing mountain of regulatory paperwork doctors must go through, the amount of time they can spend with patients decreases. Medicare is plagued by poor quality health care. It keeps trying to promise more, and continues to cost more, yet delivers less and less. The inefficiency of the Medicare system needs to be addressed now,î Tabor continued.

ìPrivate health care should offer as many options as possible to consumers. This will lead to improved access to health care and create a market for health care as well. Consumers always benefit from competition in any form,î said Tabor.

ìOne of the major reasons why prescription drug costs are so high is due to the cumbersome and lengthy process that is needed to get new drugs approved. It often takes several years and hundred of millions of dollars in order to develop and bring a new drug to market. This process must become more streamlined and efficient to lower the burden to developers. This in turn will lower the costs to consumers,î concluded Tabor.
