Tabor Calls for Aggressive Response to Meth Lab Scourge in North Carolina

ìIncreased Penalties, More Resources, Necessary to Combat Dangerous Epidemicî

Kernersville, NC
-- Conservative Businessman Nathan Tabor, a candidate for the Republican nomination in North Carolinaís 5th Congressional District, called today for increased penalties and more resources to be devoted to the growing problem of methamphetamine labs in North Carolina and around the nation.

ìThe proliferation of meth labs has become a serious problem in our state and nation,î said Nathan Tabor. ìWe cannot underestimate how dangerous these labs are. Not only do they produce an incredibly dangerous product that destroys families and kills people, but they also pollute our environment and cost the taxpayers of this state thousands of dollars in toxic cleanup costs for each lab.î

In response to this growing problem in North Carolina and across the country, Tabor has proposed increasing penalties for meth lab operators and imposing additional penalties for those operators who expose children to the dangerous chemicals used in production.

ìI think we need to take a hard look at increasing the penalties given to those who produce crystal meth,î continued Tabor. ìI believe that our local law enforcement must be given the tools to not only prosecute these individuals, but also to seize the assets of these dealers and hold them financially responsible for the cleanup of the environmental damage these labs cause. Our laws need to impose tougher sentences and additional prison time for those meth producers who expose children to these dangerous chemicals. Far too many innocent children are exposed to these chemicals and the negative health effects they bring. I believe that if you willfully expose children to meth, you should be severely punished for that.î

Tabor also pledged to work for increased anti-meth funding in Congress. ìToo many of our local communities simply do not have the resources to effectively battle this problem,î continued Tabor. ìWhile I believe in smaller government, when it comes to the battle to eradicate the epidemic of drugs, I believe that the federal government has an obligation to provide more assistance. In Congress, I will make increasing anti-meth funding for North Carolina a top priority to protect our families.î
